PLANADES, organized a Capacity Building Training (CBT) on Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) workshop under the research project with Curtin University entitled, “Are City Climate Plans Adequate for Mitigating Weather Extremes? An Investigation of Southeast Asian Cities”, on February 20, 2024, at the Barangay and Communication Relation Department (BCRD), 3rd Floor, BCRD Conference Room, Community Center, Quezon City Hall Compound, Quezon City. The event was in collaboration with the Quezon City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) and Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) of Quezon City Government, where it aimed to enhance government officials' understanding of integrating ecosystem-based solutions (EbS) into urban climate adaptation strategies.
Mr. Vincent Ferdinand Paul G. Dr. Ashraf Dewan, Project Chief Investigator from Curtin University, presented on Climate Action Plans, focusing on EbS incorporation. The CBT session targeted Quezon City Government officials and professionals involved in urban planning, climate resilience, and mitigation strategies.
The workshop also delved into the milestones of the research project, spanning from the project's kick-off meeting to the culmination of key activities such as policy review, focus group discussions, urban warming mapping, analysis of microclimatic data, field surveys, cost-benefit analyses, progress reporting, household surveys, and key informant interviews. These milestones were examined to identify gaps within the climate action plans of Southeast Asian cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Quezon City. The CBT aimed to effectively disseminate findings and foster a deeper understanding of urban climate resilience, thereby contributing to more robust and inclusive climate adaptation strategies in the region.
