PLANADES IS ORGANIZING AN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON CLIMATE CHANGE IMPLICATION ON MIGRATION TO BE HELD ON 26 APRIL 2024
ABOUT IS-CCIM
There has been a growing attention on the impact of climate change on human migration among scholars and policymakers. Climate change has been determined to be a key driver of mobility in various international agreements such as the Agenda for Humanity, the 2016 United Nations Summit for Refugees and Migrants, and the Global Compact for Migration and the Global Compact on Refugees. Rising global temperatures and more frequent and intense extreme weather events are leading to displacement and migration of populations. European countries have formulated policies to accommodate climate change-related migrations, while the United States, given its extensive real estate industry, could play a significant role in addressing similar challenges.
The International Seminar on Climate Change Implication on Migration organized by Planning Development and Research Foundation, Inc. (PLANADES) is planned to delve into the implications of climate change on migration and explore how the US real estate management sector can create livelihood opportunities for affected populations. Additionally, the seminar will cover various climate change-related impacts on communities, including changes in weather patterns, drought, illnesses, and health stresses, as well as discuss disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in urban and rural planning processes.
The international seminar will be conducted in a hybrid format, and will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive sessions. Participants will share their research, experiences, and best practices to benefit direct and indirect stakeholders, fostering collaboration and informing decision-making for building resilient societies. A virtual platform will ensure global participation, enabling stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to engage and contribute to the discourse on climate-induced migration and its multifaceted implications.
TARGET PARTICIPANTS
The seminar will bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and representatives from academia, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the private sector. Participants will include professionals working in the fields of sustainable development, risk-sensitive urban planning, risk-informed real estate management, climate change-related migration pattern studies, and community development.
PUBLICATION PARTNER
Selected abstracts will be requested to submit a full paper for consideration in a Special Issue of the Scopus Journal. Otherwise, it will be published in the Book of Abstracts.
